Taking Care of Burns the Right Way

Having burns on our body is never a pleasant experience and its worse when we don't know how to deal with it.
Burns can be threatening if not taken care of properly. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing and should definitely not be applied in case of burns. Following are a few natural remedies that aid in taking care of burns:

Use Cool Water

In case you've suffered a burn or even a minor injury, use water as a first aid until the pain subsides. It cools down the skin and also reduces burning sensation in the affected area. Incase the victim has been burnt with clothing, do not remove the clothing. Instead immerse the area in water immediately.

# Make use of the Good old Toothpaste

Toothpaste is not only for your daily brushing. Apart from its other miraculous abilities,  toothpaste works wonders in calming down burns. When applied on minor burns that do not involve open wounds, application of toothpaste immediate relief by cooling. It also prevents maturation or opening of the wound.

# Avoid Lotions of any Kind

Butter, oils or lotions should never be applied to burns as they only worsen it by clogging the pores further. Covering the burn with adhesive dressing or bandages is also not a wise idea as burns should be left open so that the skin can breathe.

# Do Not Panic

In the rare case that you have caught fire do not give in to panic as it will only worsen your case. Do not run as that can spread the fire around your surroundings too. Instead, lie down on the floor and roll slowly and call for help. Make sure the other person covers you with a blanket and pours cool water over it for a while.

# Visit a Doctor

Nothing can beat medical help under any despite of all the home first aid. Rush the patient or yourself to a clinic or hospital if the burn is major or involves vital areas like eyes, feet, genitalia and major joints.
