Best Remedies for Digestive Problems


The digestive system takes a beating with our reckless eating habits. Over consumption of spicy food, lack of water, fiber, nutrients, sleep and rest, and erratic eating habits can cause digestive problems.

If you have experienced digestive problems like constipation, indigestion, diarrhea, acidity and gas, then here are some remedies to cure these digestive problems. 

Ways to prevent digestive problems..... 

Diarrhea 

To fight diarrhea, 2 tablespoons of onion juice can be mixed with 2 tablespoons of water and taken 3 to 4 times in a day. This potent mixture helps in controlling loose motions and fighting stomach infection quite effectively.

Another remedy for such a problem is to take equal quantities of sauf and white zeera powder and roast gently on a tawa. Take ½ tsp. of this mixture at one time. This mixture can be taken every 3 to 4 hours, it's a slow process with a good natural remedy. 


  • Tea

Tea is the solution for diarrhea. The moment you start feeling queasy a cup is tea will help stop diarrhea. Not any kind of tea, add a dash of lemon to your tea without milk; this is a sure cure to loose motions. 


Even ginger tea is said to stop diarrhea while leaving you refreshed. Ginger tea is a favourite drink that warms you up when you feel cold. Ginger also has several health benefits, but when you add it to tea it can stop diarrhea, reduce cramps and pain. 


  • Brown rice

Brown rice is at the top of the list in grandmothers' recipes to stop diarrhea. Ganji, the water of the boiled rice. Use regular rice to prepare Ganji, it is recommended to prepare it from brown rice. Boil the rice for 45 minutes, eat the rice and drink the liquid. This can stop diarrhea and is also nutritious. 

What to avoid when you have diarrhea? 

- Avoid spicy, oily food 

- Avoid coffee and alcohol 

- Avoid dairy products as it is difficult to digest 

- Consume a lot of water, to avoid dehydration. 



Indigestion 

When it comes to indigestion, combine equal quantities of honey along with 1 tsp. lemon juice and 1 tsp. of ginger juice. Take 1 tsp. of this mixture 2 to 3 times in a day till one finds relief.


There are a few ways to avoid and prevent indigestion all together: 

1. Your food takes two to three hours to digest and indigestion takes place if you go to bed after you have eaten. Eat early and wait for two hours max before you hit the sack. 

2. Chew your food properly. This is very important to help your internal organs digest it. 

3. It's best to snack after two hours of your previous meal. It gives your body time to digest food before it begins on the next load. 

4. Have a hearty and heavy lunch; this is the time when your stomach is the strongest to help in digestion. 

5. Avoid stress! It affects your digestion. 


Chutney, is an important ingredient that is accompanied with food. The chutney that helps in digestion should include mint or pudina, coriander, green chillies, lemon juice and ginger. All these ingredients have certain components that help your body to absorb nutrients, cool the digestive tract and enhance the body. 

  • Warm water

Warm water - is a simple component will help you digest food and prevent digestive problems. Warm water cleanses the stomach and washes out the toxins; warm water seems to hold the key to a natural way of detoxing your system as it helps reduce stomach cramps and heartburn. 

# Constipation 

Constipation is a common problem, thanks to our intake of junk food. To deal with the problem of constipation, the simple dietary remedy is to take 10 pieces of monacca (a variant of raisins). Wash well and remove the seeds. Boil the monacca in one cup milk. Consume this drink for 3 consecutive nights.


Yet another way of dealing with constipation is to take 1 teaspoon of triphala (three key ingredients: amla, bibhitaki, haritaki) powder mixed in slightly warm milk. These herbal ingredients are the solution to your constipation. 

Bedtime solution to constipation, the important recipe that assures the cure to your discomfort, 2 tablespoons of psyllium husk added to 1 cup milk at bedtime is another sure-shot remedy for constipation.

Exercise to prevent constipation. Lack of activity is one of the causes that lead to constipation. Exercises help increase oxygen level in the body, and reduce muscle spasms of the digestive tract helping you improve digestion. Plus, exercising has a lot more benefits than helping you prevent constipation. 

# Acidity 

Home remedy for acidity: Take 1.3 liters of water and add 1 tsp of caraway seeds or shah jeera. Bring the water to a boil and drink it while the water is warm. Have this water two or three times a day for the next 5-6 days. Caraway seeds can help you douse out acidity. 

Another recipe to wipe out acidity and it includes the popular after meal mouth freshener. 

Boil a cup of water and add 1 tsp of sauf to it. Leave it overnight and next day strain the water and add honey to reduce acidity. Have this concoction three times a day to stall acidity without heartburn. 

How to avoid acidity? 

- Avoid spicy food, fried and oily food, and fast food as they are difficult to digest. 

- Have food that improves digestion like rice and whole grains. 

- Consume food in small proportions and ease out digestion and prevent acidity. 

- Alcohol and caffeine cause acidity. 


What causes gas: 

- Cabbage, beans, aerated beverages, spicy and fried food 

- If you talk while you eat it can cause gas. When you are upset or tensed it can cause gas formation in your digestive tract. 

- Tight outfits too can cause gas and bloating

- Over consumption can cause gas too. 


# Gas and Bloating 

Probiotic supplements and food products can help reduce gas formation and the feeling of bloating. The bacteria present in probiotic food prevent the production of gas and the enzymes are needed for a healthy digestive tract. Besides aiding digestion, probiotic helps in the absorption of calcium, improves vaginal health in women and helps in digestion of solid products.

- Take a stroll after you eat 

- Sit upright after you eat 

- Have your drink or beverage at room temperature 

- Eat slowly and chew you food 

- Stay active to prevent gas
